Smile concerns

Deep bite, explained.

When the upper front teeth overlap significantly more than normal over the lower front teeth, it is known as a deep bite. Understanding how your teeth meet is the first step toward finding the right care for you.

Every smile is different. A dental professional can assess your bite and discuss suitable options.

Understanding your bite

What is a deep bite?

A deep bite occurs when your upper front teeth vertically overlap too much of your lower front teeth when your jaws are closed. In some cases, the lower teeth may even bite against the roof of the mouth or gum tissue.

Genetics, jaw structure, and abnormal tooth wear can contribute to this condition. Only an individual examination can determine the exact underlying cause for your bite alignment.

Upper front teeth hide most of the lower teeth
Excessive wear on front or back teeth
